While it’s Schilling who keeps Green outfitted in all things tacky, it was Essman who initially conceptualized her character’s over-the-top look. It’s like a part of her personality that’s like a security blanket because she’s like, ‘No one’s going to mess with me if this is how I look and I can mess with everyone else,’” costume designer Leslie Schilling explained over a recent Zoom call. “It almost makes it a little funnier whenever she’s wearing very sparkly, but she’s calling someone a motherfucker or like, you know, a fat fuck or something because she herself looks so ridiculous while she’s saying all of it. Just a handful of episodes in, notable mentions include the red leather beret perched atop her curls, a pair of sequin-encrusted cargo pants that seemed better suited for a boy band revival than lunch with sworn enemy Larry David and husband Jeff (Jeff Garlin), and a canary-colored hat more reminiscent of Dick Tracy than a Los Angeles housewife. In a few episodes, you will feel like dancing. One piece episodes the exact one piece episodes to skip. At the time of writing, 103 of the currently aired 981 episodes are fillers. Her status as a “ rage icon” cemented long ago, Essman bounds into every scene, her ostentatiousness personified by her wardrobe. However, one piece, unlike many anime, has really good fillers and we think at least some or all should be seen.
There’s a strange kind of joy that comes from watching Susie Essman as Susie Green on this season of Curb Your Enthusiasm.
